I have been doing needlework of one kind or another—embroidery, spinning, weaving, quilting, tatting, knitting—since I was a young girl. Much of my work has been given away, but the joy of the process never leaves me. There is something very soothing about the rhythmic repetition of stitches, something deeply satisfying about the creative process. When I’m not making pieces of my own, I’m often in antique stores, purchasing linen and lace treasures, and wondering about the lives of those who made them.

After earning a BA in English and before coming to the University, I enjoyed a variety of professional positions, and I’m grateful for the way each has helped to broaden my perspective on life: I operated a pre-school center, explored the country as a National Park Service Ranger, worked as Editor / Director of Communications for a non-profit agency, and held the position of Executive Assistant for Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Children, nature, writing, music, and now art in a college setting—life is good!
