Artistic Merit Scholarships

Each year, the Art School awards Artistic Merit Scholarships to undergraduate students in recognition of their achievements and talent. Students are given annual awards ranging from $3,000 to $15,000. The awards are renewable, based on a full-time student status, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and the successful completion of 24 credit hours per academic year.

Students are informed of qualification for these awards after the results of their portfolio review are tallied. Application deadlines are early. Please contact the Hartford Art School Office of Admission at 860.768.4827 for details.

Academic and Athletic Talent Scholarships

Academic and Athletics Scholarships are awarded to students of the University regardless of field of study. Contact the University of Hartford’s Office of Admission at 800.947.4303 for further information.

Need-based Aid

The Hartford Art School and the University of Hartford offer all government-sponsored, need-based financial aid, including Pell and SEOG grants, work-study, state independent college grants, and student loans. To be considered for any of these programs, you must complete the appropriate financial aid form and mail it, generally no later than February 1st. Contact the University of Hartford Student Financial Assistance Office at 1.800.947.4303 for more information.

A few important things to remember during the financial aid process:

  1. You must be accepted for admission before you are considered for student financial aid.
  2. You must submit the required deposit fees by the deadline date as stated in the Admission Office notification letter in order to reserve the financial aid awarded.
  3. Financial aid cannot be credited to your account until your high school final transcript is received in the Office of Admission and Student Financial Assistance.
  4. Your financial aid award is subject to verification of information provided on your FAFSA application and may be adjusted accordingly.

How to Apply

All applicants (freshman and transfer) for admission will be considered for non-need based scholarships and grants at the time of admission. Prospective students who want to be considered for need-based financial aid must:

  1. Apply for admission to the University of Hartford
    Deadline: Rolling Admission
Students seeking consideration for financial assistance should file an application and provide transcripts and test scores by March 1st.
  2. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    Priority deadline: February 1st
    Federal School Code: 001422
Based on the information provided on your FAFSA, the Federal government will determine your family's expected family contribution (EFC). The difference between the cost of attendance (COA) at the University of Hartford and your EFC is your financial need. Your EFC is determined using a formula developed by the U. S. Department of Education and is designed to assess what a family can afford to pay toward a college education. Factors include the number of family dependents, number of children in college, income, and a percentage of total assets (not including home equity). You should list the University of Hartford as a recipient of the FAFSA data.
    www.fafsa.ed.gov
  3. The University must receive the results of your FAFSA by March 1st. It is strongly recommended that the FAFSA be submitted by February 1st since processing could take approximately three to four weeks. It is strongly recommended you estimate tax information to ensure both priority filing dates are met. You can then update the FAFSA data after completion of your tax return.

Applicants whose FAFSA is received after March 1st or who are accepted after this date, will be considered for assistance based upon the availability of funds and in accordance with University policies and practices.
