Illustration students develop their artistic abilities to effectively convey visual concepts for clients in the marketplace. The rigorous illustration program emphasizes conceptual problem solving, technical expertise, meeting deadlines and other professional practices. The program stresses drawing knowledge and skill as the basis for all visual conceptualization. This is applied to both traditional and digital mediums.
Intermediate technique classes in watercolor, acrylic, digital and oil develop fundamental skill sets and problem-solving abilities. In the senior year, students explore the editorial, advertising, and children’s book markets before learning business skills and developing targeted portfolios for their areas of interest.
Professional standards are taught and maintained through sophomore and junior reviews. Our program prepares students to work at a professional level, giving them a comprehensive understanding of illustration and the ability to merge client needs with their own personal styles.
