After earning a BFA in Graphic Design and Textile Design from Miami University in Oxford Ohio, Mark Snyder moved to Dalton, Georgia to work for Shaw Industries Incorporated, a fortune 500 corporation and the world's largest producer of carpets. He served for two years as a designer/stylist in R and D then moved into the Corporate Communications Department. There, for the next five years, he served as art director and creative director for its corporate brand and contract division.
In the summer of 1992 he exited the corporate world to pursue an MFA in Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design. There his thesis research was directed toward the creation of interactive environments, non-linear narrative, and multi-sensory installation.
In the fall of 1994, Snyder accepted a tenure track position at The Hartford Art School and has been teaching here ever since. In 1995, to satisfy his research track in the tenure process, he opened his design consultancy object|resonance, which concentrates exclusively on non- and not-for-profit clients, focusing on the education and fine/performing arts markets. o|r also takes on numerous pro bono projects annually where deserving clients in the greater Hartford community, who could not otherwise afford design services, receive work from the studio at no charge. In 1999, Kevin Sepe, an HAS alum and departmental design technician joined object|resonance as a business partner. The studio has received regional and national recognition for its work has appeared in many award shows, exhibitions and publications.
Snyder also creates editioned print work, book objects and one-of-a-kind artwork outside his design studio. This self-authored art and design work has been exhibited nationally and has been included in national and international publications. Snyder also serves on the board of the AIGA Boston and the Connecticut Art Directors Club and served as the CADC president for one year. He often co-chairs the annual CADC Student Conference.
