2012 Connecticut Scholastic Arts Awards and Exhibition

January 15 – February 3, 2012

Awards Celebration: Sunday, Jan. 29, 2 – 3:30pm
Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford

Statistics: The 2012 Scholastic Art awards Exhibit featuresselected works from over 130 participating schools.Selected works were chosen from over 1,500 individualentries. The 655 selected works will be on exhibit alongwith 98 Gold Portfolios. Of that total number, there were267 Gold Keys, 157 Silver Keys and 267 Honorable Mentionawards granted.

As an affiliate of the National Scholastic Art AwardsProgram and The Alliance For Young Artists And Writers, theConnecticut Regional Program remains proud to continue atradition established in 1927. This National program wasestablished to recognize the creative talents of grade 7 -12 students in our American public, private and parochialschools. Originally, the regional art exhibits were held insupporting major department stores. This initial effort hasnow evolved, matured and now represents the largest andmost senior program of its type in the country.

Top award Gold Key winners submitted from each nationalregion will have their art works reviewed by a blue ribbonpanel of judges at the national level in March. Selectedartworks will be placed in a National Exhibit in New York City, in June. The National Student Awards Ceremony will beheld at Carnegie Hall in mid-June. Selected students willreceive an invitation to this gala event. "Celebrating theCreative Spirit of Connecticut Youth" is the theme of the23rd Conn. Regional Exhibit. The purpose of this Conn.program is not merely a competition of sorts, but arecognition for and encouragement of the many talentedstudents from across the state. Artists, university artfaculty and professionals in the field have joined togetherto review and select the finest Conn. student art work in 15media categories, along with senior portfolios inphotography and art.
