Gene Gort is a visual artist and video producer living in Collinsville, Connecticut. His artwork, videotapes and installations have been shown internationally including; DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA; TheVideoArtFoundation, London, UK/Barcelona, Spain; VTape Salon/Prefix Centre of Contemporary Art, Toronto, Canada; La Casa Encendida, Madrid, Spain; Island Film and Video Festival, Prenelle Gallery/UGC Cinema, London; Pacific Film Archive/Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, CA; University of Rochester; Tyler School of Art; Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT; Hallwalls, Rochester, NY as well as numerous media festivals including the Black Maria Film and Video Festival (traveling); Athens International Film and Video Festival, Athens, Ohio; and the Boston Cyberarts Festival. His work has been recognized with grants and awards from the Pollack-Krasner Foundation; Connecticut Commission on the Arts, Massachusetts Cultural Council/NEA Regional Arts Program; and has been nominated twice for a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship in Film/Video/New Media. This past summer he was in residence at the MacDowell Artists Colony, Peterborough, New Hampshire. He received his MFA from University of California, San Diego ('82) and his BFA from Hartford Art School, University of Hartford ('78) where he presently holds the position of Associate Professor of Media Arts, a program he designed and directs.
