Anchor Awards Honor Outstanding Alumni

TheUniversity honored nine exceptional alumni with Anchor Awards during this year’s Hawktober Weekend celebrations on Oct. 22, 2011.

The Anchor Award, the most prestigious award presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association, recognizes alumni who have reached the highest level of professional accomplishment and possess absolute standards of integrity and character that positively reflect and enhance the prestige of the University of Hartford.

Annette R. Lemieux ’81: Hartford Art School Award
Lemieux’s solo exhibitions have taken her and her artwork all over the world including exhibitions at the Matrix Gallery in the Wadsworth Atheneum, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, N.Y., the Stitching De Appel in Amsterdam, Netherlands and several other museums. Lemieux’s works can also be found in the permanent collections in numerous museums across the globe including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, all in New York, N.Y., the Berlin Embassy Collection in Berlin, Germany, Castello di Rivoli in Turin, Italy, and Centro de Arte Contemporaneo de Malaga in Spain. The Carpenter Center will host a new exhibition of Lemieux’s work entitled Unfinished Business, opening on Feb. 14, 2012.

She has received awards and grants from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Pollock/Krasner Foundation, the Howard Foundation Fellowship at Brown University and the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Krefeld, Germany. In 2009, Lemieux received an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts degree from Montserrat College of Art.
