Scholarship Established in Memory of Two Recent HAS Graduates

The Hartford Art School has established a scholarship in memory of two talented and passionate young alumnae who died within days of each other last November.

The Ashley Kozlosky and Racheal Verdicchio-Morris Scholarship will be awarded to a student in his or her senior year who is majoring in illustration or visual communication design. Hartford Art School Associate Dean Tom Bradley said he hopes that the school will be able to award the first scholarship next fall.

Racheal Verdicchio-Morris graduated in 2006, earning a BFA in illustration with a minor in visual communication design. Ashley Kozlosky graduated in 2009 with BFA in visual communication design.

Both young women graduated magna cum laude, and both were passionate about using art to address social issues, Bradley said. Verdicchio-Morris was an accomplished illustrator who ran her own illustration business, and Kozlosky was employed as a graphic designer by Allied World of New York City and Farmington, Conn.

“They were both known for their active social consciences and great interest in making art and design public within the local and global communities,” Bradley said. “They were such shining examples of the good that our students can do when they go out into the world.”

Tragically, both women passed away in November 2011, and the Hartford Art School community decided to honor their memory with a scholarship fund.
