Bill Thomson, associate professor of illustration in the Hartford Art School, has won a 2011 Connecticut Book Award in the Children's Illustrator category for his book, CHALK.

CHALK was a co-winner in the Children's Illustrator category, together with The Ink Garden of Brother Theophane, illustrated by Andrea Wisnewski.

This is the second time Thomson has won a Connecticut Book Award. He won the award in 2009 for his book, Baseball Hour, and he was a finalist in 2005 (for Karate Hour) and in 2007 (for Building With Dad).

The 2011 Connecticut Book Award winners were announced at a ceremony at the Hartford Public Library on Nov. 20. The Connecticut Book Awards, sponsored by the Connecticut Center For The Book, recognize and honor books with specific ties to our state: the author, illustrator, or designer must be native-born or have been a legal resident of Connecticut for at least three years, or the book must have a Connecticut setting in order to be considered.
