Painting and DrawingThe Painting and Drawing Department is committed to providing an environment in which students are given the opportunity to develop specific ideas within the context of contemporary painting and drawing. The faculty is sensitive to the diversity that marks our pluralistic age and students are encouraged to explore technical, aesthetic, and conceptual issues within painting and drawing styles and artistic movements before focusing on a particular point of view. The faculty prides itself on its diversity and professionalism, and these qualities enable faculty to assist students in the search for their own artistic vision and personal expression. Drawing is an essential component of any visual arts curriculum. Students majoring in drawing choose courses in various drawing techniques and illustration. Painting, particularly water-media, is a required elective for the drawing major. The Painting and Drawing Department and senior semiprivate spaces comprise studios located in Taub Hall and the Art School Garret. |
