Corinne Beardsley, Ceramics
Where are you from?
Nantichoke, Maryland
Why the Hartford Art School?
There were scholarships and a great looking catalogue and it was a place for me to declare my independence.
What do you think of your major’s program?
It offers a studio with the freedom to go into sculptural or functional clayworks and the basics to understand the array of directions you can go with this medium. Instructors
help you develop in the specific areas that you are inspired by to make a strong body of work with those ideas.
Are you getting enough oxygen?
I don’t want to be greedy so I take short breaths.
What inspires you?
Long drives and bike rides, mowing the lawn, visiting artist lectures, critical art essays, listening, the preciousness of objects, flesh, love and the tactile sense.
Is there anything to do around here?
Yes, parks and mountains to hike. There are poetry readings, art openings, and quirky landmarks a short drive away. There is an eclectic art scene in this town.
What is/was your biggest concern when you first came to school?
If I had enough money to survive and if I would find an art community.
Something Corrie may not tell you: besides being a budding performance artist, she built her own wood kiln in the visitor parking lot last year.
