Student ActivitiesSTUDENT ART COUNCILThe Student Art Council serves as the student voice in the art school. The club takes trips, puts on events, and runs programs. Activites that SAC put on this year included: coffeehouses, movie nights, end of the year barbeque, and lectures. To get involved, join us for one our weekly meetings, generally on Thursdays at 12:15pm, Room 205.
FIELD TRIPSStudents are given a broad base of experiences to complement classroom and studio activities. All Foundation students are required and upper classmen are encouraged to participate in two faculty-guided, full-day field trips, one each semester. Through the generosity of the Howard and Dorothy Whitney Student Activities Fund the school partially underwrites bus trip travel costs. At least one trip each year is to New York City. Other venues that have been visited included Boston, Mass MoCA, Sterling and Clark Museum and the DIA Center in Beacon Falls, NY. STUDENT VIDEO NIGHTAt the conclusion of each semester, students from the Media Arts Department present their work to the University community at a public event. Works showcased range from introductory works to senior thesis projects as single-channel videotapes, performances, and media installations in the Media Box. For dates and times please visit the calendar. CLAY CLUBThe Hartford Art School Clay Club is a student run organization that is open to all University of Hartford students. The club runs several events per year to promote ceramics. These events include throw-a-thons (wheel throwing marathons open to all students and all levels of expertise), the Annual Holiday Silent Auction, held in December, with 40% of all proceeds going towards financing future club events, and another ‘special event’ sale that is held in the spring semester. For dates and times please visit the calendar. The Clay Club members also attend the yearly National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference.
