Transfer Students

Students with previous academic or art school experience may transfer into the Hartford Art School with advanced standing, provided they have had a program comparable to the one at the Hartford Art School. (Note: Those transfer students wishing to pursue visual communication design or illustration must have portfolios reviewed by faculty before class standing can be determined). Students who have completed more than one full year (30 semester hours) of transferable college work are usually not required to submit admission test scores or a high school transcript.

Along with the completed application for admission students must submit official transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions of higher education that they have attended. Transcripts should be sent directly from the institution(s) to the University of Hartford’s Office of Admission and Student Financial Assistance, whether or not transfer credit is desired. We suggest that students contact the registrar's office or appropriate transcript processing unit of each institution, in order to ensure that documents are forwarded to the University of Hartford in a timely manner.

Transfer students will receive information about the total number of transfer credits accepted by the University of Hartford at the time of acceptance. In most cases, the Hartford Art School does the final application of transfer credits to degree requirements. Transfer credit and advanced standing are determined after receipt of an official transcript and evaluation by the University of Hartford Office of Admission. Depending on the number of documents involved, a transfer student should expect the admission process to take between two and four weeks.

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. University of Hartford Application for Admission
  2. Official transcripts from accredited high school and/or college
  3. 3 Letters of recommendation from counselors or teachers
  4. SAT or ACT scores
  5. Personal Statement
  6. Portfolio
